Default newsgroup question

i access newsgroups through my isp news server. the only with them is i find there is a lot of incomplete files going that route. is my only alternative a paid service like usenet or is there any free service out there that is any good??

The problem with newsgroups is that you're limited to what your ISP allows through.

I remember the days of seeing only 99 of 100 parts of a file, and it's one of the reasons newsgroups aren't very popular any more.

Since when is usenet a paid service?

i was at a web site last nite and it said 7 day free trial and monthly fees depending on how much you wanna download. Am i wrong in saying it is a paid service??? and i'm thinking you would get less incomplete files if going directly to usenet than going through ISP. but maybe i'm wrong on how this whole thing works!!

Ok, sounds more like some form of paid invite-only FTP site for Warez.

Word of warning... if they're willing to sell access to pirated software, they're probably more interested in getting a trojan onto your system through that software to mine your personal info for resale. That's where the real money is.

Just me, but I avoid Warez sites like the plague.....

Sounds like you are talking about UseNeXt or the plethora of other software to grab binary attachments. There's a few free ones out there.

I think the paid service he's speaking of is a paid news server. There's a few around that are high bandwidth and have a reasonably long retention.

Also, if you're having problems finding all the parts of a file, try downloading the par files and reconstructing the missing rars. (Though, I can't remember if you can actually do that or just repair broken ones)

I use newshosting .. I pay a monthly fee to get downloads. Very Fast (as fast as your connection will allow), much fast then torrent.. espically for those images around 8gb that you would burn onto a Verbatium DL DVD-R. If you want more info PM me.

Downloading via usenet (paid or free) is fast as all get-out.
Usually sustained 950K/s here, which is nice.
There are usually pars to fix any semi corruption.
I only use it for 0-day though, I've never had luck with anything more than a day or two old.
Let me know how your experiences go, I'd love to know how good one of those free long-term retention sites works (but I'm lazy)

Get into a private torrent tracker.. I've found them to be just as fast for releases, and for downloading.
