Default my PC is beeping

earlier today my son said dad what is wrong with our monitor it has no picture. so i checked it PC was on cables connected but no picture. So i just hit the power button to turn off and turned on again and all was ok after get the screen that says to start windows normally. Well when we got home tonite same thing, " dad monitor's not working" so i powered off. but now when i start up, beep.....beep......beep, etc. So if i understand correctly my pc is trying to tell me something with the beeping, anyone know what it is ??? ( besides hey you shouldn'd power off like that)

your user manual for the motherboard should tell you what types of beeps are for what types of hardware error.

Are the beeps long and droning, like an alarm, or a specific set of beep codes like its trying to tell you something?
If it is the long continuous beeps its a CPU thermal alarm most likely.
If it is beeping out a few tones then sits there quietly, something ain't right (most of the time something stupid like sticks of ram or video card not seated tight enough).

the beeps were about 1 second long with a about 2 seconds break inbetween. sprayed some air to clean out dust, took out my one stick of 500 MB of ddr 400 ( i need upgrade ) and my video card and re seated. turned on and SNAP. think it was a piece of dust on video card. then i got message " cpu is unworkable or has been changed. please recheck - cpu soft menu. hit f1, think it said to restart and seemed to start to boot but shut down. hit power button again and same message, so hit f1 and it started. have to wait and see if it keeps up.
thanks

I don't know how familiar you are with your BIOS (actually it would be your CMOS, but who's here to judge?) just pop in, confirm that everything is as it should be, and there should be a "save" or "save and exit" option which will write that you approve of the settings...although I don't know why it would think the cpu was changed if you didn't remove it. Might be since the power was off or something.

On top of that, what did you mean by "SNAP"?
Did it make that sound, or was that an "oh snap it works" kinda "SNAP"?

You have some serious hardware issues going on there if you are hearing snaps and seeing sparks. Almost as serious as my car, but not quite. On the bright side, I can hook you up with a sweet price on a replacement unit, bigger, stronger, faster. Or I could even look at that old beast for you, of course that is a much lesser, worserish idea
