What kind of money can you see yourself spending? Do you want all new, or would used be OK? Do you plan to be a hard-core gamer, or would "works but without all of the eye-candy" be sufficient?

Basic system I'd say minimum C2D intel chip (dual core, but quad would be better for a small premium) on a P35 chipset board (I've had a lot of luck with the Gigabyte models) with at least 2 gig PC2 6400 memory (higher would be better).

Decent vid cards would start at around $250 and work their way up from there to $350 - $400.

If you're buying new, plan on at least $600 - $700 for a decent start (that's without monitor and operating system).
