Default multithreaded app advice

i just got a 4200 dual core machine and it is sitting next to my 3500. I can't seem to find any benchmarking programs or apps which show how much faster it is. Any recommendations. I was on Tom's hardware site, and I'm expecting the system to be about 1.5x as fast as the 3500.

i've run all of the futuremark stuff, but want to try some apps that *really* use the dual core cpus. demos, open source or freeware...

thanks
mike

The 3dMark 06 CPU test should give you a good measure of performance gain. PCMark, also. I can't really think of anything else off the top of my head.

You could get a demo version of Adobe After Effects and then install this plugin (Trial version):

http://www.gridironsoftware.com/Nucl...eoPro_Overview

Run some test renders without the plugin and then run renders using the Nucleo Fast Render.

This is pretty much used as a standard by creative media geeks to test out the performance of new hardware.

You'll also find that single threaded benchmark apps like super-pi will do better even though it'll only use 50% of each processor's power.
