New CPU Cooler
so I'm getting rid of the Tt Bigwater SE, i dont really need it and it's more of a hassle then i like now.
So i picked up a Thermalright Ultra-120 (Thanks RNT! )
http://www.thermalright.com/a_page/m...t_ultra120.htm
it's F***ing huge lol
Quote:
Overclockersonline.com
“.…Thermalright Ultra-120 heatsink the best performing socket 939/AM2 model tested to date….the open framework of the Thermalright Ultra-120 heatsink allows users to endlessly try different combinations of 120 mm fans with the cooler, and in this respect the Ultra-120 provides a solid thermal foundation.…you should find the Thermalright Ultra-120 heatsink an excellent choice for socket 939 or AM2 processors.”

I'm installing it this week and i'll post some temp comparisons with the Bigwater

I'll say, must be a pretty large box for that beast of a cooler.

Got it installed now. With AMD systems it can only be mounted facing up or down which kinda sucks cause in the other position it would blow the heat right out the back.
It's even bigger in person!!
when mounted in my Soprano case the fan on the side window is so close to the top of the heat pipes that they are withiin the casing of the fan but don't hit the blades unless u put a tiny ammount of pressure on the side window and then it'll hit the top of the pipes. a 120mm fan is smaller in height but the same in width as the fins.
Anyways heres some temps:
Bigwater SE
Idle 39
Load 45-48
TR Ultra-120
Idle 32
Load 40
Now to do a fresh OS install and hit the bios for a stable overclock.
I had the Bigwater upto 2.6 on this thing so id love to see how far i can take it with this cooler on

Hopefully I won't have the 'height' problem...I don't usually have my case side on anyway.

there normally would have been about an inch of extra clearance, but my side fan just happens to be exactly where the top of the cooler is lol

65ºC  You using that as a space heater J/K
Thermalright makes some kick-ass heatsinks for those willing to pay the price, my XP-90 is about mate with it's fourth CPU. Carried me through S478, S754, S939 and now LGA775.

65C isn't the worst I've seen it, it's topped out at 75C.
It does act as a heater, this room is heated by it alone.
