Default Worth fixing?

Asrock K7S41

Did an upgrade/repair for someone. Has 11 leaky caps, came with a 2000+ and 2x256MB, worth anything if I replace the caps?

for the cost of 11 caps you could get a workin system out of it. I'd do it.

that just gave me a flashback of the ECS K7S5A
really depends if you can get the caps.
worth a try just for fun and if it is not too expensive.

Asrock rocks ass, but not in any form of what might be considered a good way.
I'd solder new caps, but thats because I'm a persistant pain in the ass and I never let anything go.

That being said, if you do ditch the board, can I have the I/O shield?

I really need to get a beefier solding iron for new boards, 45W just doesn't cut it.

Its not about the size of your beef, its about the quality.
I used to use those stupid radio shack pencil soldering irons, and I melted stuff all over the place all the time.
Since I was doing a lot of this stuff I got a night weller temperature controlled unit.
Holy crap it was like night and day.
I pick the tip I want based on style and temperature (600,700,800 degree stamped on them) and the iron is that temperature in a min or so and stays just exactly that temp...unlike the standard 15W or 45W pencil that just sits there and burns like a son of a whore.
*Ahem*
/rant.

I have a Pace PRC 2000 and a Weller WCTPT(guess that's a 60W) at my disposal, I suspect the GND and PWR layers in newer boards are pretty substantial, P3 boards were pretty quick to fix.

if you have a PRC you should have nothing to worry about, if that can't do it you are SOL.
Best bet is to get some flux and use the desoldering attachment to clean the holes, then solder in your new caps.. should only take but 5 minutes with that rig, provided you got the caps ready to go.

what values do you need? I have a few extra caps around here if you are in need, and I gotta place an order soon for more chips so I could order you them in - only be a few dollars.

speaking of which, I got to get an MBT 350. They look to be perfect for the hobbiest.. I priced those Pace PRCs and quickly ran the other way. I am pretty sure if I sold my car and my TV I might have enough to pay for one with a few different tips.. ungodly expensive, but streamlines all soldering jobs very nicely.

Rat shack irons are great, I usually buy all their tips when I go in as they burn out every 2 weeks for me.. beats goin back so often. Mine only takes about 2 min to heat up though and work great for small circuits. (this is a nexxtech 15w pencil - unlike my 15/30w switchable rat shack branded one thats gettin biffed.. that takes a good 10 minutes)

I just needed a little more patience, I should really avoid doing things when massively hung over.
