Re: Post Yer Specs!
Well, I finally took the leap and built my very first PC. It's downloading SP3 now, but overall, I think I am in good shape, compared to the rig I have been using. This one will be deemed the family PC and my built toy will be mainly mine. I am wondering if I might get any feedback from people, regarding the setup and, if possible, suggestions on a decent, but low-cost, vid card.
First, the old:
Compaq Presario S6000NX
2.7 G celeron
1.2G DDR RAM
Radeon 9250 PCI card, 512Meg
40G HDD
160G HDD (storage)
New:
Asus M2N-MX SE Plus Mobo
AMD Athlon X2 4600 CPU
Kingston KVR667 RAM 2G
Pioneer IDE DVD burner (DVR-111D)
Now I know this is WELL below specs many tech fans would run, but being on a budget, I had to really watch my $. With the case ($49 from Robotnik) I am into this for approximately $320, including tax. I would be hard pressed to come close to this with any other setup, as far as I was able to tell. Maybe buying something online, barebones from Tiger or such, but lacking a credit card, that was not a viable option.
I'm wondering what the thoughts are regarding a decent vid card to add to this. I don't do HEAVY gaming, but I wouldn't mind being able to run most of today's games, even if I have to bump some options down a hair or so to attain decent FPS. The old rig ran relatively well, although my main love (WOW) chugged a fair bit with a number of toons onscreen. I'm trying to keep the card under $100, so a used card from someone might work well, if the price was right.
For reference, I am considering the Sapphire HD3650 either 512 or 1G. I can get this new for around $100. I'd really like to see or find something comparable at a lower price, as I am not planning to run this to a TV or anything right away. I have a CRT monitor, which will be upgraded to a nice LCD within a month or so, if that makes any difference at all.
PM or e-mail replies would be greatly appreciated, as this is, for me, a HUGE tech step. I am NOT tech savvy enough to know a lot, but I have enough knowledge to research and understand most of what might help me run a bit better rig.
Huge thanks to anyone who bothers to respond.
