Yep, that link to installing Beryl on Ubuntu is what you want.
Now it may even be easier than that, as the latest verison of Ubuntu (I think it was just released? If not it's still in Beta) version 7.0 has Beryl built in.
Beryl is one sweet window manager and apparently works well in software mode - so no major 3D acceleration is required (although it is suggested). I love how the windows appear to float above the cube for each desktop...
