Vista = junk
I've got vista ultimate,i install fine up to the point in which it wants to reboot, then where it shows the little green progress bar (similiar to the winxp boot screen negative a windows logo) , it just does'nt do anything but move the progress bar, thats it.I've tried removing a stick of ram ( an apparent issue reguarding atx 1800 cards and vista), no dice,I unplugged on of my monitors,no dice.

I remember hearing something in the internet news recently about a major company in the US putting out notice that they could experience long installation pauses or something like that with vista.
20 to 25 mins.
I think it was a warning from circuit city, if their the ones who had the "geek patrol" in VW bugs doing their IT.
I think...

i found it installed fine etc... but its god damn bloatware... maybe when a 64bit litestep comes out for it i would run it. If your thinking about installing it i would atleast wait a few months. You will also find out in about a few days driver signing also sucks ass. It might be good for someone who sucks at computers and gets a virus every 10 days. But if you somewhat know what your doing and what to stay away from i'd stick with xp.

No my HD is fine,I had the 15minute pause during installation, from what i understand its normal.
i'm making my laptop eat it,we'll see what happens.
********UPDATE***********
It went on my laptop fine,i wonder what the issue is on here then,Heres what i know
-Virtual drives,Burning software,Antimalware/Spyware/Virus software all has to be removed before installation : DONE
-Issues with X1800 ,try one stick of ram during boot : DONE (tried on one)
-Issues with dual monitors (rare cases on ati cards, most cases with Nvida cards) : DONE (tried on one)
-Issues with SATA ! : Done made sure raid controllers where turned off and it ide simulates.
Extra:removed all line 6 drivers for my guitar/bass pod pro racks.
The only thing i have'nt done is remove my surecom wireless g pci card,i'll be some pissed if thats some how not compatible

apparently i'm not the only one
"After first restart, I can't get past the loading screen
I recently bought the retail copy of Windows Vista Home Premium Upgrade. I
ran the installation and choose the clean install. Everything seemed to be
working right until it restarted for the first time (this is part of the
setup) It restarted and went into a loading screen similar to the one for
Windows XP. The problem is that it stays on this screen and never progresses.
I've even left it on for several hours with no result.
If I try to run from the Windows Vista CD it loads files then goes into the
loading screen also.
I ran the Upgrade adviser and everything checked out fine.
My system specs are:
Intel Core 2 duo 2.17GHz
ATI Radeon x1700 Pro
Intel motherboard
2 GBs of RAM
one IDE HD

I've had nothing but bad luck with Vista...
--Got a copy.
--Defragged and created a new partition with PartitionMagic so I could use it alongside XP (Set 60 gigs)
--Ran the install, selected the second partition. It got to about 48% complete, then jumped to 100% and gave me shitty errors.
--Researched, found a fix for this, recompiled the .ISO with vLite
--Seemed to install fine.
--On first boot (to continue the installation progress), it says "Vital driver xxxxxx.sys not found or corrupted"
--After a retrying the install a few more times, I broke and contacted a friend with Vista, and asked them to copy and send me the driver that was corrupted.
--Replaced the corrupted driver file by booting back into XP and placing it in Vista's Windows/System32/Drivers folder.
--This worked, but then it gave me another error because another driver was corrupted.
--The driver that is now corrupted is undeletable/unreplaceible. I cannot swap it with the good one.
--No Vista. Still looking for solutions.

I think these steps are where your problem lies. You shouldn't have to "recompile" an ISO.. Most windows install errors are caused by bad ram, so more specifics on the errors would help..

It was error code 0x80070241. An extensive googe search showed that vLite can fix the error.
However, I've heard the RAM issue thing floating around as well. I'll give'r another shot tommorrow with only one RAM stick.

He said he made a new partition for it, not upgraded. However, try just leaving the space empty, and letting the windows installer make the partition, rather than having PartitionMagic make the partition.

Heh, I used PartitionMagic for a reason
When I formatted my HDD, I allocated all the space to one partition. I then installed XP on this partition. You cannot normally create a partition on a fully partitioned space without having to reformat the drive and lose all your data. PartitionMagic can do this without having to reformat, which saves time and effort Plus, you can resize your partitions with ease.

You can leave a non-partitioned section of the drive, and let the windows installer put a partition in the free space..
