From what I've heard (from a relative that works with Aliant) is that the download speed is awesome, but the upload is rather shitty, or at least in comparison...

Hey guys,

Try looking into getting a aliant satiellite high speed installed. When we contacted them a few weeks back they said it could be installed in our area, however, we need to get our account balance up to date first

They are supposed to be cheaper than Starchoice internet.

http://productsandservice.aliant.net...sp?section=59&
bodycont=productsandservices%2fhs_satellite.jsp&cu rbody=59

(you most likely have to copy and paste the url, to get it to load)

The only issue with satellite is latency, so you can expect pings upwards of several hundred ms. It's better than dialup, but it's about the same for fast-paced games such as FPSs.

I have checked out the Starchoice web site and there is no information on them offering sattelite internet! I know that they have the sattelite in space for it but have never came out with offering it as of yet. The last time I asked them about it thay said that they were trying to find ways to lower the cost before offering it! If anyone has any other information I would like to hear about it as I am on able to get dialup as well!

Starchoice's Version of high speed is known as Netscape Accerated, High Speed, or Nitro.

There is Xplorenet, which would cost around $400 just for the installation, and an additional $50-$60 per month for a 3 year contract.

With Aliant Satellite High-Speed they give the option of 3 different packages, High Speed Lite, High Speed, and High Speed Ultra, with the price range being anywhere from $60.00 to $195.00 per month. And it includes a satellite dish, modem and professional installation.

- With a monthly contract: $999 (one-time charge)

- With a 3 year contract: $599 (one-time) OR $23.00/mo. for 36 mths.

You're download speeds range from 512 Kbsp to 2.0 Mbps, and upload speeds range from 128 Kbsp to 500 Kbsp
