Re: looking for a pug
Yay! Another person wanna become pugged!! I have a few breeders that I know who don't have a litter at the moment but I know some are just around the corner. Have you done much research on the breed? Not trying to be mean but it's just so many don't do their research and buy these little buggers cause they are so cute and then up not doing a lot of things they need and they up having a ton of health problems costing big bucks. ?????
I'm going to post this for you & anyone that is interested in a puglet:
Pugs Are Heat Sensitive: Because of their short snouts pugs find it difficult to breath in heat and humidity. Be aware that in the summer they can not be out in the heat for any length of time, over exposure can cause heat stroke and can cause long term damage to your Pugs organs including the heart, kidney and liver.
Health Issues: Pugs are prone to a number of genetic health issues and require more veterinary care than the average breed of dog. This is why it’s very important to get a pug from a reputable breeder that is interested in enhancing the breed. Breed related health problems include Pug Dog Encephalitis, Skin Problems, Hip Dysplasia, Intervertebral disk disease (IVD), cancer, eye problems patellar luxation, and breathing problems—caused by undersized nostrils and short snouts. So it’s important to be aware that you might be spending a lot of time and money at the vet if you get a pug.
Pug = Velcro: Pugs want to be with their owners at all times and can get very upset if you leave them alone. Expect to have your pug at your feet at all times, initially this is adorable but it can at times be very annoying when you can’t walk because your pug is in your way. I honestly can’t do anything on my own anymore without having my little shadow following me around the house.
Shedding: Pugs shed a massive amount for such a tiny little dog. If you get a Pug expect to have fur all over the place, EVERYWHERE!! Unless, you are exceptionally lucky and get a very rare put that doesn’t shed…if only there was such a thing. From what I have read, Black pugs don’t shed as much as fawn pugs because they only have an overcoat rather than an overcoat and undercoat like the fawn pugs. Not sure how true this is but I have been around a few black pugs and they don’t seem to shed near as much as my fawn pug. Maybe someone who has both a black and fawn can give us more insight on that.
Pug Maintenance: Pugs require a reasonable amount of general care and grooming—especially if you want to minimize shedding. Pugs have facial folds on their face that need to be kept clean and dry if not, skin irritations may occur. Another exciting thing I didn’t know about pugs until I got one was all about how they are notorious for having their anal sacs fill up. They need to be expressed from time to time and trust me it’s disgusting. Thankfully, I’ve only had the pleasure of smelling it while my Veterinarian expressed them but I’ve heard some horror stories about them releasing them on the floor. I have no had the fantastic opportunity of being "juiced" by my little guy and let me tell you, I usually have a very strong stomach will I thought I was gonna have to pull over on the McDonald Bridge so I could get out and puke. It's sick...think of the worst possible thing you've smelled and times it by 1, 000, 000..hahaha. Okay, maybe i'm exaggerating a little now but it's HORRIBLE
Another thing about pugs are they fart A LOT and it smells GROSSSSSS!! Also they snore very loud and are huge pigs, they will beg for food. You should NOT give these little guys any table scraps because they can pork it on and end up having health issues, they need a high quality food to make sure their skin, fur, and bodies stay in the best possible shape.
Message me for names of breeders.
