CanadaWide 2 cats need a home

I have 2 cats that need a new home. 1 is male, the other is female. They are not fixed so I suggest they either go to different homes, or get 1 fixed. They are both litter trained and good with children. Female is approx, 3 months, male is approx, 1 year. Female is grey white and black striped, male is black with a white chest. Great cats and very cuddly.

Both should get fixed. It's healthier for them both.

The female is too young to be fixed.
The male is now gone so now I just need to find a home for the female. She is a great kitten and verrry cuddly. She is also good with children. I can get pics if anyone would like to see her.

Cats can be fixed as early as two months. Which is 8 weeks, and they shouldn't going to a home if they're younger than that.

My sis is a vet and I know that cats can't be spayed until they go thru heat which is anytime between 4 and 6 months old.

That's not true, and if she's a vet, I'm glad she's not mine.

Here's some reading material for you and your sister, the veterinarian:

Early Age Spay

Stop! Don't Litter- early spay and neuter!

Also, a refresher on spaying cats:

Information on Feline Spay.

No need to be rude, she's an amazing vet and she happens to know more than whats posted on a website. She also happens to own 6 clinics so she is obviously a good vet. And that's great that they spay cats that early, but she is more concerned with the cat's health than early spaying. It is always best to wait for a first heat before the cat is spayed. Anyhow, if anyone is interested in her, she is a great cat. Please let me know if you have any questions or would like pics.

Not to be rude, but she must not be a well informed vet from around here, are you sure she is a vet and not a vet tech.

I see you are listed as living in Truro, and I have dealt with every vet and clinic in the area and every one of them will all recommend spaying a cat before it comes into heat, (hence why you can adopt already spayed kittens from the SPCA) as it will make the healing process go faster and your cat will settle down a lot faster. If she is recommending that you spay the cat after its first heat its because it will most likely cost more to spay after their first heat because of the short time frame you have before she will come back into heat.

When I spayed my female cat at the tender age of 12 weeks, before her first heat the bill was around $100, however, when my father got his cat spayed after it had already been in heat once it had costed him close to $150 and we both went to the same vet. So to some people (particularly the vets) yes waiting till they first come into heat is the right thing to do.

Now I have finished my informative little rant for the day, I'm off to get my never-ending house work done.

Thanx for the reply and yes she is a vet, she lives and works in NB not NS. She went to U.P.E.I, and has been a vet for almost 10 yrs now. She owns and runs and works in 6 clinics in NB. I understand that cats can be spayed that early however some ppl, vets included, like to wait until the cat is a bit older.

If a cat is being fixe after going into heat, it is called a mature spay, 1) it's more difficult and 2) it's more costly. Vets usually recommend spaying before it goes through a heat cycle

That's how some vets get their vacations paid for by their customers. Which vet clinics does she run/own I'll be sure to inform my puppy buyers to carry a well padded wallet before entering her doors!!

I think people should chill out a bit and let this girl advertise this kitten she has for adoption. She is adorable and I think it is up to the new owner of her when she will be fixed. Good info though but it always seems like an attack. JMO

When a person is willfully placing out false information, I'll do my best to correct it.

If you noticed, several of those sites linked to are written by veterinarians, for veterinary medical journals. Where do you think vets get their information? Very similar to regular MDs. Via medical journals.

It is NEVER best to wait until after a heat, be it for a cat or a dog. It IS a mature spay and carries extra risks that a spay done BEFORE a heat does not carry. End of story.
