Default Economy Shoe Shop

The Economy Shoe Shop
http://www.economyshoeshop.ca/

My wife and I went down to The Economy Shoe Shop on Saturday evening for a night out. My wife wanted to check it out after seeing it being rated #1 in a couple of categories in The Coast surveys. (best place for a first date, ambience, and nachos).

We took up one of those #1's and ordered the nachos, which took quite a while to get to the table, but I would say they definitely deserve the ranking (and the wait). The rest of the menu looked really tasty as well (see the link to the website), and they had a great list of beers on tap as well as a good wine list.

The ambience is top notch, and because the Shoe Shop is actually one of 4 interconnected bars/restaurants connected together, you can pretty much find what you want. The Shoe Shop itself is definitely a more intimate atmosphere, with low lighting and most of the tables are set up for 2 people.

Since you're in the heart of Halifax's downtown, there's plenty to find once you're finished there as well, although we were disappointed that the Uncommon Grounds was closed as we wanted to grab a coffee when we left.

Anyway, I'd highly reccomend it, and hope to head back myself sometime to check out the rest of the menu.

My friends and I went to the Shoe Shop on the 2nd of Feb. and it was such a great atmosphere. We waited over two hours for our meals to come out. She did tell us that it would take awhile for our food but I didn't expect it to be that long. I ordered the nachos because I heard so much about them, and IMO they sucked. The veggies on top were harldy cut up, however, in their defense I think it was just because they were so damn busy that they just didn't care how it was as long as it was out. I will definitely go back there sometime!

I think they only have one kitchen for all 4 parts of the restaurant, which is way too small. We did comment that we thought 45 minutes was way too long for a plate of nachos, but they were so good, we soon forgot that. We were also there for an evening out, so having some beer/wine and chatting without thinking about the kids in a really nice atmosphere was great.

The Shoeshop is a great place but the place is well known for the food and service both being shotty as hell. When the food is good it's fantastic but depending on who's in the kitchen that day ya take your chances. As for the service it's similar, I went in with a group of people one day and we left after 30mins sitting without any service at all! Another time I took a friend for her birthday dinner and we were told when ordering a drink the food wait was an hr or so and given menus, we left about an hour and a half later since nobody ever returned to take our food order. Then we went to the Old Triangle where they don't forget their customers. I still continue to visit the Shoeshop sometimes because the atmosphere is great but not nearly as often as I would if they had their act together

yah i had the same problem with the shoe shop. Took our group of about 7 forever to try to find a waitress for food. Just ended up drinking there pretty much and got hammered. Then after when we still had no food went to get a pizza.
Not a bad spot though but i think the upper deck has some pretty decent nachos and pretty fast service.

well i think part of the shoddy service from kitchen has to do with no one being in it at times.. ha ha.. i remember when i used to work there, we'd have a couple drinks, wander around the restaurant.. ect...

and despite that, it's just one small kitchen for that entire place... orders can build up REAL fast.

anyways, their food is delicious, and it's a great place to be if you have the night to kill.
