Of all the foods in the market, IAMS is the LAST I would feed, even without this massive poisoning going on.
IAMS is the equivelant of feeding your dog Happy Meals constantly.

Ugh! My old girl would LOVE that, but she'd likely have a heart attack!

Personal preference to what type of food you feed your pet is quite the same as to what you feed yourself. While there is nothing actually wrong with Iams, it comes to personal preference and sometimes along with your breed. Some breeds of dogs can handle different type of foods better than others, same with cats.
I personally feed my adult dogs Pedigree, but since I do have one that is pregnant and due in little over a week, I feed her Iams Smart Puppy, just becasue it carries the essential ingredients needed to allow her to whelp and nurse without much problems.
But I have in past fed my dogs Iams, Ekubanuba, a Shur Gain's brand (can't remembfer the name right now), and a specially food from the US, but I much prefer the results I am getting from Pedigree.
Being a dog breeder and dog show exhibitor, I need my dogs in top shape - physically and as well as their coats need to be nice and full, with tons of body, length, and just the right amount of shine. And Pedigree gives me that

Lise, you sound like a Pedigree ad, lmfao!!
As for the trouble with Iams? There was a massive recall on foods, because there was a poison in it and it was killing animals.
Iams is a low quality food made of low quality ingredients. It contains rancid meat, rancid fats, and items that are not generally easy to digest, such as corn and grains.
Check out this site to see where your dog food ends up. http://www.dogfoodproject.com/
I have used Pedigree in the past, I refuse to use Iams, Eukanuba, or Ol' Roy. I've also made my own dog food and overall prefer to feed RAW meats to my dogs. My kibble of choice is Canidae, or Wellness. Innova EVO is an excellent food as well, all are made with human grade ingredients.

No, it wasn't banned. It was recalled. Specific bags with a specific code number were pulled from shelves. There are now new batches available for sale. It was a toxin that had been deliberately placed into grain that was used in the foods, and not just in IAMS brand either. MANY types were affected.

Well, to be honest, Iams had a black eye long before this, from other crappy practises. Menu foods is the company that Iams used, exclusively, I believe, so yeah, when animals started dying, because of their food, I'd be upset too. I can't say that I blame the folks that are pissed.
I'm just glad I don't use those foods.
