I dislike the Source, Bought a Logitech Steering Wheel, Guy said it was new but it was used, and broken. Got a remote control car, same thing. Obly thing I got htere that worked was a DVI to VGA Adapter for my X1300 so I could Dual Monitor.

these speakers are a great deal.you would think that they would suck because the price is so cheap.they actually sound really good.im into hi end audio so i know what is good ie... b&w,mordaunt short,jm lab, mission etc..
if you want speakers that pound and sound great for a steal, get these ones.i just wish the source had stock, you pretty much have to order them in to get new in box.

The set I ordered arrived today, free shipping to have them dropped at a local store location. I am impressed, these things really pound. They'll take everything my 100 watt rms/channel amplifier can throw at them with ease and they're still clean and responsive! It's a crazy deal on 300watt rms speakers @ $65 each. The Source must be clearing them out to make room for newer models because the 1/2 price sale on them ended March 31st - then it restarted on April 1st through April 15th. The matching speakers for the surround system are also on for 1/2 price, grab em while you can!
POWER HANDLING (RMS) : 300 WATTS RMS
FREQUENCY RESPONSE : 38 Hz - 22.0 KHz
SENSITIVITY (+/- 3dB): 89 dB
NOMINAL IMPEDANCE: 4-8 OHMS
DRIVER COMPLEMENT 3 WAYS, 4 DRIVERS
WOOFER 2, 6.5 "
WOOFER 1 - 6.5 "
TWEETER 1, 1 "
CROSSOVER FREQUENCY: 2.5-3.5 KHz
DIMENSIONS (HXWXD): 1105 x 200 x 325 MM

What are the actual physical dimensions of the speaker itself? How heavy are they? I'm still running super old (I mean 20 years old) Acoustic Research speakers that my mother bought me for Christmas from Radio Crap. These things have seen a helluva lot of partying (I actually melted the voice coil in one of the tweeters one night) and they show it. LOL

DIMENSIONS (HXWXD): 1105 x 200 x 325 MM. They're about 40" tall, 8" wide, 12" deep and weigh 17.5kg's each. I should have given you the theatre experience when you were here, this place was vibrating about a half hr before you arrived, lol. I was in a similar boat as you with an early 80's set of Techniques, I decided to buy these instead of replacing a tweeter in the old ones

The Peak Audio warehouse on Robie St is another place for great speakers. They have end of lines of high end British products at prices way below list.
For bookshelf speakers, the Celestian line is particularly well priced.
Just another option. Congrats on your new speakers RNT, I'll remember to wear earplugs.

I too am into high end gear and while these, I hate to burst your bubble are a steal yes a steal at $130 for the pair. They would serve the majority of people who do not want to spend $$$ on the home theatre.
But, I wouldn't put them up to or even consider saying they are as good as my Axioms. Axioms another Canadian Product and very good value for your dollar, if you are into quality.
As for you AMP at 100 wpc if it is not a high current amp ,I would say that 100 watt as most manufacture lead us to believe was tested at 100 watts running 1 channel not 2 , 5 or 7.1. This is how they get there high figures and that was for a split second so they can say 100 wpc. I would love to see 100 continuous and all 7 channels. The low end, entry level, theatre in a box amps if it say 700 I would be surprised if in fact you get 20 watts per channel when all seven are running. and this is by no means exaggerating. Goto any home theater place and ask the tech ( not Future shop or Wheatley or Walmart ) and they will tell you the same thing.
Yes, my friend has a set of the I think Himlak from Wal-Mart like $50 for front tower speakers $99 for the 100 watt sub and the centre and book shelf where also $40 a pair and they were impressive that he kept them.
The problem happens when you are watching a movie like a Bond movie and an explosion happens this is where the wattage is called upon and the amp needs to produce if it is at 1/2 volume and all of a sudden needs alot of juice well hell it has none because it is using most of it's ball just to keep up to the main level it is at. So , what happens is it clips out and distorts kinda like if you had it at 10 and don't even friggin tell me you can run your amp at full volume with those speakers and it is as clear as if it was at 2. The problem is when the explosion happens it sends a shit signal to the speaks and high wattage that the tweeter blow or the crossover cannot react fast enough to filter it and the full level goes to the tweeter. Even though the speaks say 100 watts the tweeters are like 10 watts, mid range speakers will take about 30 watts with the balance being the woofers 60 watts each. and if these all of a sudden get the brunt they will blow out. Kinda of like if your where hyper ventilating and put that small plastic bag over your mouth ( why they do this I don not know ) but as you breathe you know how the bag goes in and out, not quite to the limit of bursting , but what happens if some body suddenly scares the shit out of you or shoves a 100 lbs per square inch pressure hose in your rear end and turns it up, that bag gets a sudden shoot of air at a fast and high pressure. It will over extend and blow apart....same thing for the speakers just a different analogy.
Anyways, I took my 12 year old to look at these for his bedroom, he just bought his first AMP ( Denon ) and said they look nice, but he too ordered a set of Axioms speakers.
You do get what you pay for and I know I drive a damn Neon

I'm not suggesting these speakers are of audiophile quality, more that they are far better than anything else you'll get for the price and at that are damn impressive. If you want to see more of an audiophile's opinion of these speakers have a look at this review where the reviewer states more than once that the fit, finish and sound from the system would lead you to believe they are far more expensive than they are and that's at full price: http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volum...rs-3-2005.html
As for my amplifier it's not a cheap home theatre in a box, it's not a high end audiophile unit either but as an apt dweller it's way more than I need or can use and is decent quality for the $550 I paid for it 5 years ago. I didn't post this for the local audiophile suggesting they trash their high end gear and replace them with these but rather for the average user like me that wants some bang for the buck, decent quality and sound without breaking the bank. I'm saving my money for a vacation!
I don't run my system in surround because it just won't work well for me with an odd shaped and setup living room. My center speaker is stored in the closet. These may not compare to the Pro Energy 22's or Infinity's I used to have back in the day (or maybe they would) but paired up with my current Cerwin Vega's the system pounds and sounds great for music and movies.
I'd love to have a high end setup but I just don't care enough about it to warrant the cash outlay. I was going to spend $40 replacing a tweeter in my 25yr old speakers when I stumbled on this deal and decided it'd be a better way to go. The end result is I'm happy with these speakers, they are a steal for $65 each.
