Allergy shots (immunotherapy shots)
I am fed up with always having a stuffed up & runny nose not being able to smell, breath well and always feeling tired due to dust mite allergies and whatever other environmental allergies are out there. I am also allergic to cat dander but I had this problem before I got mu cat.
I now (for past 10 years) also have asthma usually every June or July on hot humid days and around 7pm or after my asthma kicks in BIG TIME and I can no longer breath.
I was told by people who had allergy shots (immunotherapy shots) for about 1-3 years that their immune system built up so well that they no longer have allergic reactions or even asthma.
About 2 years ago I went to my family doctor (Dr. Chris Ozere at the Albro Lake Medical Clinic) who referred me to an allergy specialist, Dr. Linden Smith (about 30 years old now) at the Dartmouth General Hospital (2nd or 3rd office in left behind gift store and information office at main entrance) and she said it would be "unethical" for her to give me allergy shots because I have a cat.
I tried to explain my problems were present before I had a cat and that other people I know had these shots with pets at home and them being tested positive for cat or dog dander at allergy test and they still received allergy shots. One person I know lived in Ontario and the other in Europe where they had their allergy shots (immunotherapy shots).
I then "PUSHED" my family doctor (he wasn't to happy) to refer me to another allergy doctor and was sent to Dr. Zachary Fraser (about 50 years old now) at the Woodlawn Medical Clinic who already knew I was at Dr. Linden Smith 6 months before because my family doctor noted it in the medical documents so Dr. Zachary Fraser did another allergy test with same results of dust mite and cat dander allergies.
I tried to explain to him about allergy shots and knowing people who had it done with great results even with them having pets and allergies to them, His comment is he backs Dr. Linden Smiths statement ALL THE WAY.
My guess is if he didn't know about my previous visit to Dr. Linden Smiths office HE MIGHT OF GIVEN ME ALLERGY SHOTS. Anyone know of which allergy doctors in Dartmouth provide allergy shots? how long where the shots (weeks & months)? and how do you feel now?, also I assume I would have to go through my family doctor correct? if so how do I go about it so maybe the new specialist "will have an indepedent opinion". Thanks..
