Star Weight Loss

I just got home from the store and bought a new outfit for Christmas day, my mom is scared nothing she has for me is going to fit. Anyway, I bought a pair of pants TWO SIZES smaller than I was wearing a few months ago (the pants I was wearing a few months ago were really tight) I then tried on a pair of jeans THREE SIZES smaller! It's very exciting! And it it's because of Weight Watchers! Anyone else currently following the weight watchers program or activley losing weight?

I recently lost over 50lbs, I was drinking green tea and barely eating, but then found out I was going to have a baby and gained 10lbs. I gave away all my fat clothes and now everything is tight, but they still would of been too big. More new clothes for me

No offence Scotiachick! But anyone can lose weight if they don't eat, but you are more than likely going to gain it all back and maybe more. Are you eating more now?

Yep, that's what will happen. If you don't eat enough then your body will sort of panic and start storing fat. Not fun.

When I used to be healthy, I'd eat 5 small meals a day. Green tea is good too, drink lots of water, I drink about 3Litres a day.

My wife wanted to join Weight Watchers, so I've joined with her. We're using the online tracker which makes it pretty simple to keep track of everything. I've just stuck a laptop in the kitchen and we use it to plan out all the meals and track points, etc. We haven't been doing it long, but I'm glad to hear about someone's success (congrats Krissy!).

I was down to my "ideal" weight about 2 years ago, but did it through one of the Low Carb diets (Protein Power Plan) and have gained most of it back now so am going to try a more traditional approach.

I also cleared out a spot for the treadmill and started hitting that. I can't believe how out of shape I am! It's easy to tell when you get winded running after your 2 year old!

Awesome! I wish my boyfriend would join WW with me, but he thinks he can do it on his own. I was going to join up for the online tracker too but didn't know how it worked and if it was worth the money. Do you and your wife go to the meetings? They are great.

Well good luck to you and your wife.

That's great Krissy and everyone else who's been successful! I have been losing since January 06, very slowly. I'm ok with that though because I'd rather it be coming off than going on!! So I'm not stressing myself about it and it's working! I'm not doing any plan just eating less (smaller portions) and trying not eat at night (I LOVE eating at night!!).

I have lost 25lbs since then and just went down 2 pant sizes as well!! I could have gone one more, but I like my pants looser. I have been the same size since my youngest was born 5 years ago, so I know the feeling of excitement by losing a few pounds. Makes you feel better all around!!

How much do you plan to lose?

So, we're just over 2 weeks in and I'm 12lbs. lighter. I don't actually feel all that much thinner, but I do have a lot more energy, which I attribute more to the treadmill than anyting. When I first started back on the treadmill 2 weeks ago, I could barely keep a brisk walk going for 45 minutes - now, I'm up to running for most of that.

The online Weight Watchers thing is pretty good, mostly because it makes tracking your points and figuring out the values of things really easy. So, for example, I had some cereal and a hard-boiled egg this morning for breakfast - I just type egg into the system and it comes back with all of the egg related items. The cereal I had is in their system, and then the milk - all stored and done for the day. My office with a computer is right next to the kitchen so it's a lot better than trying to track things on pen and paper.

The big test is going to come next week when I have to travel for work. I have already made arrangements for access to a treadmill (anyone who is interested - GoodLife has a trial offer on right now - $20 for 2 weeks. The only GoodLife in Halifax is a women's only place at the Joseph Howe Superstore, I think, but that's a pretty good deal to try it out.). So, the biggest test will be with the eating. I'm planning my first trip out at lunch to be the grocery store so I can have the right food with me for the week instead of depending on the restaurants around where I work.

Krissy - No, we don't go to the meeetings. I have no idea what they do there, but all I can picture is a bunch of fat women sitting around talking about how much they miss peanut butter.

WW is definitely targetted towards women - I need to lose weight, but the only reason we're doing WW over some other dieting plan is because my wife did all the leg work. It's definitely working, though!

Hey Krissy, sorry I didn't reply to this til know, I just noticed it. I didn't word my post right. I didn't strave myself, I cut out all the junk food. I only had my 3 meals a day, stopped drinking pop and started drinking just water and green tea, I didn't eat anything after supper. And I stopped eatting at Mcdonald's, Wendy's and places like that.

But once I found out I was expecting, I started eatting when I was hungry. Before I would go to bed hungry, but I was still eatting. Now it seems like I'm eatting all the time, but I havn't packed on the pounds, I'm healthy.

Ok I can see how that picture could come to mind. However, WW is not just all fat women. There are women and men who are there to maintain their weight loss as well as those who are still losing. When I went to the meetings many years ago, there were a couple of men at the meetings every week.

IMO - it's geared more towards women because we tend to stress more about our weight than most men. Plus, we are more apt to spend money on weight loss than men too!

I found the meetings were very informative and motivational. If I missed a meeting, most times I wouldn't do as well the next week. The meetings were important for me. They just seemed to keep me going.

The great thing about WW however is that you can eat peanut butter if you like, it's only 2 points!!!

I've stopped drinking beer.

Beer = 3 pts.
Jigger of scotch = 2 pts.

Scotch wins.

Actually, wine is pretty decent. A full cup (250 mL) = 3.5 pts, which isn't that bad. A full cup of wine is a pretty big serving once you get it in the glass!

The hardest thing I've found so far is my son often rejects the food we give him (he's only 2) and if it's something really good, it's hard not to eat it for him.

Oh - I'm sure the meetings are motivational for some. They just wouldn't be for me. Know thyself.

How much does it cost to join Weight Watchers? I assume that the meetings aren't mandatory since Acheyne mentioned that he doesn't go, correct?

I was doing the LA Weight Loss thing and lost 15 lbs but with my schedule, it was hard to keep up with going in 3 times a week to get weighed. Plus, I found that most of the counsellors contradicted themselves or each other. One was telling me to eat citrus fruit first thing in the morning then the next time I went another counsellor was telling me I should be eating it at night. Honestly, it may work for some but I just found it a major waste of money - BIG money at that.
