Default Easy Crockpot Roast Beef

This recipe is so simple yet soooo good.

3-7 lb cheap roast, depending on size of crockpot(I usually buy the boneless blade roasts when they are on sale... meat needs to be well marbled so no eye of round)

1 envelope onion soup mix

Thats it!

Sprinkle dry packet of onion soup mix on bottom of crockpot, place roast on top, cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours. The roast comes out fork tender and the drippings make an unbelievably tasty gravy.

I mash potatoes with some butter, milk and some Mrs. Dash galic and herb seasoning and mash together carrots and turnip with some butter and some brown sugar.

Best darn roast beef dinner you'll ever have.....

Does the meat brown?? I find meat done in the slow cooker always looks so unappetizing because it hasn't browned.

I'm going to try your recipe though. Sounds good!

Depends on what you do with it. I cook roast in the slow cooker all the time and it always comes out awesome.
Usually its a nice brown on top, and a bit of an odd brown/grey on the bottom...but who cares.
I'd eat shit if it tasted this good.
Make sure you put at least a little bit of water in the bottom, even just 1/2 a cup will do, although I usually use as much as 2 cups.

BabyDawn, I was surprised that the meat browned up as nice as it did without having to sear it in a pan first....

I would say adding water would be necessary if you're using a less 'marbled' roast, but I've always had lots of drippings (2-3cups at least) without adding any.

This recipe sounds delicious.

I am planning on buying a crockpot and I thought some of you might have a little advice for me. I see in XS Cargo flyer they have the Rival Versaware crockpot for 39.99 its an oval shape 6 quart, you can cook in it on the stovetop and brown meat first, then drain any fat off b4 slowcooking. Is the oval shape better than a round one? Most 6qt crockpots are about 30.00, would it be worth your while to pay 10.00 more for the feature of being able to brown meat and make gravy in the liner on the stove top be worth it? Any opinions at all, please and thanks.

My crockpot caught on fire once. Luckily, we were home at the time. Freakin scary is what it was!! Anyway, I emailed or called Hamilton Beech and they told me to send back the burnt one and they would send me a brand new one - no charge. They sent me the oval shaped one and I like it better than the round one. Some pieces of meat fit better in it. That's my two cents...take it for what it's worth.

Thanks for the recipe and the reply back about the browning. I am going to try your recipe soon!

I use the oval one...and aparantly my meat isn't "marbled" enough.
I cook all kinds of stuff in it, but roasts and stews are my favorite in it.
That and I'm a huge fan of red meat...

Ken, I made the roast (well my husband did actually) and it turned out really good! It was soooo tender and it was browned as well.

Thanks for the great recipe!
