I don't think they work like that.... the only component adapters I've seen for vid cards take the signal from the S-Video connector.

sorry, should have clarified, its a dvi to component for my monitor, male to male, so i can connect my monitor to my eastlink dvr, i have a dvi to hdmi adapter, but my monitor is not hdcp compatible, so i only get picture for a few seconds. component does not have hdcp, and i see that mysterybyte sells the cord i am looking for, just no real way to get all the way out there.

You'd have to verify that your monitor can input component video over the DVI port, most can't. The cables that are out there are physical adapters only that are designed for older video cards that output component over the dvi ports. The best best for you would be to find a DVI amp that strips HDCP. The do exist but will likely have to web ordered. Another option that would work is to hook your DVR up to your PC with firewire and display it on your monitor via the PC. Check out avsforum for the details.

no, basically i need to get video out from the component on my dvr to the dvi port on my lcd, or the vga port on my lcd, since that is analog to analog

VGA would be easier, you'd need a transcoder last I checked they ran about $100-$200 online, but this was about 5 years ago when I looked. From what I understand about the firewire route there is a MCE plug in to allow you to use the firewire based STB as an external tuner. A few years ago when I tried it with my eastlink DVR that software wasn't available so I used VLC to watch and CapDVHS to record.

I love VLC media player, its like a software tank lol. it'll open anything basically. why cant M$ intigrate something like that into Media Player

so i was reading a couple forums and see that its pretty simple to connect to a pc via firewire and watch and record, at least with media center. is it possible to do this with vlc and other programs without media center, i have come pretty accustomed to using tinyxp

firewire pci cards are very inexpensive.. this is provided you have enough spare PCI card slots.

With VLC you can watch the stream no problem, just no recording. But you've got a DVR so No issue. I use to use VLC to watch the stream and CapDVHS if I wanted to capture one of my DVR records for burning.

ok, i see a firewire pci card for about 20 bucks, so ill pick one up wednesday with the rest of my hardware. and you guys are telling me that the firewire on the dvr is enabled for me to use it, you have had them yourselves?
