FS: 80GB Maxtor IDE HDD
80 GB Maxtor DiamondPlus IDE HDD
it has a few back blocks in it.. (about 3mb worth, which is nothing really). I use it at work just fine.

Do you still have the hard drive, if it works I'll take it for 10.00 Is it 7200 rpm?
What do you mean by, "it has a few back blocks in it" although if its only 3mb just wondering what that is?

He meant bad sectors I think, meaning the drive is slowly failing

question for somebody. If your hard drive has a slower rpm count, aka a 5400 rpm vs a 7200 rpm, will the 5400 rpm drive necessarily have a longer life? Just wondering

They're rumored to be, not sure if they are rated for a longer lifespan though. You should be able to look up the MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) stats on the drive at the manufacturer website

No worries
On a side note these can sometimes last yrs without any more problems but more often they don't. Usually good for a storage drive without too much worry but not recommended for the OS.
