Hey there, I've been a lurker on here for a while and really repect the level of computer knowledge some of you guys have. I have a chance to buy a system and was wondering if the specs are worth the money. Here they are:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 3800+
Processor Speed 2.0GHz
1GB DDR2 SDRAM (Exp. To 4GB)
200GB SATA (7200RPM)
Dual Layer 16X DVD+/-RW With LightScribe
NVIDIA GeForce 6150LE With 256MB Shared
Cache 2 x 512KB L2
10/100 Ethernet
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
High-Def Audio, 8 Speaker Configurable

I can get this for $499 plus tax

It says its refurbished, whatever that means....

Thanx for your opinions, it will help me determine the sale.

Or is this configuration not a good one... (I want to set up a media center)

refurbished can mean 3 things:
returned before the end of the refund/return period
rejected shipment by customer (basically unopened and by law a company can't sell the exact same item twice as new)
end of life (basically a new model replaced it)

I can always install a decent video card and disable the OB, right?

It's got 2 PCI and 1 PCI-Express... didn't see an AGP.

From what I've read, the OB video is fairly competent... maybe not for serious gaming, but i'm gonna be using it for a media center hooked up to a 32" LCD.

It's a decent price considering it's got a legit OS, and should be fine as a media center computer. (especially since it's got an open PCIe slot).

It'd cost you around $450 - $500 to build new without an OS.

no, it would not cost $450-$500 to build without an os......if so, you must be shopping at pc-medic.

From MB just for quick calc......

Proc $131, mem (2X512) $92, mobo (6100 vice 6150) $85, HD $80 (midway between 160 & 250), case $38, lightscribe DVD $53.......

Add all that up and it comes to $479 without an OS.

Some places might have slightly lower or higher prices.... but it all comes down to between $450 - $500 new.
