Default FS: Compaq Presario 725 laptop

Compaq Presario 725US laptop
The good:
Athlon 4 1.4GHz / 256MB RAM / 20GB HDD / CD-RW/DVD-ROM / 14.1in screen
- All recovery CDs with XP Home key so clean install is done easily
- new battery less than 1 year old - holds charge no problem
- Targus case
- Linksys Wireless-G PCMCIA card

The bad:
- the screen is cracked and the plastic cover by the right hinge is
cracked. Basically, the screen and cover should be replaced. They are
about $100 on eBay.

$225

Hmmm... with that damage, it looks a bit risky for just a screen/case change. How was it damaged? Guaranteed to work otherwise?

The hinges were cracked before the screen was damaged and the cover wouldn't stay upright. This is a known issue with this series. If you look through eBay auctions for screen covers for this laptop you will read comments about this.

The LCD itself was damaged when the laptop was dropped. The laptop is running fine. It is my cousin's. I will do a clean load of OS and run it through a few boot up cycles to make sure. I will have it here later tonight, so I'll check it out closely. I can send you more pics if needed or you can come a take a look at it.

Here's all you need to have a full working laptop: Presario Screen on eBay

Talked (e-mailed ) to that guy @ E-bay selling the screen; he doesn't deliver internationally. Anyway $100 Cdn plus shipping for the screen if I'm successful biding for it (plus time plus putting it together).

I think $225Cdn is too much. I tracked three COMPAQ Presario's on e-bay. All went for less then $250US.

PM me if you want to let it go for less.

Alright, here comes an update. I fully restored it using the original restore CDs. I booted it up a couple of times plugged in and then again with just battery power. No issues. That said, obviously I cannot guarantee how it will perform a couple of months from now. I took some more detailed pics for those interested. The PC card door is broken off, but the slot works no problem, so you can use the included wireless card. Same for the floppy drive - cover is broken, but the drive works.

The price is now $189 obo without the targus case I listed originally.
