Default Buying OEM auto parts online better than locally

Now that the Canadian Dollar is doing so well (also free trade with USA) I have been buying factory OEM (dealership) Toyota parts and genuine OEM parts aftermarket from these places:

Online Toyota dealerships with AWESOME prices:

http://www.1sttoyotaparts.com/partscat.html (30% off Toyota of USA MSRP) (15% shipping to Canada by USPS Mail, speak to Don 1-888-271-3948)
http://www.toyotapartsales.com (25% off Toyota of USA MSRP) (1-866-221-4696)
http://www.toyotadiscountparts.com (20% off Toyota of USA MSRP)
http://www.toyotapartsandservice.com (part # lookup)

Genuine Toyota OEM parts, mostly tune up sold aftermarket:

http://www.densoaftermarket.com
http://www.densoproducts.com
http://www.sparkplugs.com
http://www.ngksparkplugs.com (use coupon code "dodgetalk" to get extra 10% off)

Aftermarket online autoparts stores selling "some" not many genuine OEM parts at excellent prices:

http://www.rockauto.com
http://www.autopartsonlinecanada.com (free shipping with $75+)
http://www.autopartsway.ca (free shipping with $75+) (1-866-530-5789)

I have saved a ton of money (I gave enough to Oregan's Toyota in the past 12 years) as Oregan's Toyota prices are outrageously high and now the Oregan's family has 14 dealerships:

http://www.oregans.com (see the brand logos on top of their site and the links on bottom too).

I posted this as the local auto parts stores like Big Bargain Auto Parts, Fergusons, UAP/NAPA, etc have higher prices then the above online stores I and my friends shop at. One example is an original Toyota (Denso exact fit not universal fit) 4 wire oxygen sensor for my Toyota, Oregans wanted $300+tx I bought it from 1sttoyotaparts.com for only $110. My fuel economy improved dramatically, you can lookup pricing on their websites above.

I've used RockAuto several times myself, always happy.
Only time I ever had a problem with a large order they sent me a left side tie rod end when it should have been a right side. They were very nice about it and sent me out the correct replacement part no charge for the part or shipping.
And they've always got what I'm looking for.

Did they let you keep the wrong tie rod end?

They explained that they did not require it returned immediately, and I was to hold on to it for 28 days. If they hadn't asked for it by then, I was to dispose of it as I saw fit. So I did just that...by tossing it on a shelf with all the other spare parts for the truck.

For those of you that have some car repairs which you cannot tackle yourselves I provided two of the most HONEST mechanics in Dartmouth/Halifax.

Laurie's Automotive on Wyse Rd is A VERY HONEST GARAGE TO TAKE YOUR CARS TO:

Laurie's Complete Automotive Service
219 Wyse Rd (near Symonds St & Elmwood Av,near the Scotia Tire)
Dartmouth
Ph: 466-1444

They sponsor the Trailer Park Boys so you often see them there.Another honest shop (in the Halifax side) is:

Hydrostone Auto Repair (New address)
5684 West Street at Agricola St (across from the Fire Station)
Halifax,NS B3K 1H7
Ph:454-9773

Wayne Rawding was voted best (most honest) mechanic by "The Coast" magazine year after year I believe from 2000 up to 2003:

http://www.thecoast.ca/issues/061103/feature.html

I copied & pasted the reviews:

"Best mechanic

Wayne Rawding
Hydrostone Auto, 5516 Kaye, 454-9773

With 20 years experience under his tool belt, Wayne Rawding is your choice for who to take your car to when it's making those strange noises. Best of all, Rawding guarantees his work. He worked at the Shell Station on Young and the Gulf Station on Inglis before settling down at Hydrostone Auto. A good mechanic is hard to find, that's why Rawding's customers follow him wherever he goes and voted him best
car doctor in the HRM this year."

http://groups.google.ca/group/hfx.ge...3f2 c0a80499e

http://groups.google.ca/group/hfx.ge...409 de74b4749

The proper way to find an HONEST mechanic, lawyer,TV repair tech, etc is by word of mouth from people like RC, other local discussion (classified sites, newsgroups),friends, relatives, neighbours and co-workers.

If the majority of people in the HRM speak highly for a person or shop then obviously they are HONEST but if one person comes along and says take your car to so and so I would be leary as sometimes people have a vested interest so they can get a free service at our expense. I lost a good friend because his crooked car mechanic ripped me off and he knew he was a crook.
