They Have Arrived ;)
As some of you are aware I had a very pregnant dog living with me. Well on Friday night after 4 hours of hard labor, we welcomed 5 very content and healthy pups into our world. (3 Girls, 2 Boys)
It was a long trip to finally get them out - her temperature dropped at 3:30pm Thursday, for those of you not understanding that part, once the temperature has dropped to its lowest point, you usually have 4 - 12 hours before pups arrive, but this can be extended to 36 hours with no fear of danger. Well Kelsea decided to wait till Friday evening at 5pm to finally get things started and like all first time (maiden) dogs, she was slow to really get things moving. But by 8:30pm we had the first pup and by 12:10am the last one had arrived.
So in a span of three days I managed to successfully get about 8 hours of sleep, and while I was close to being a babbling idiot near the end, I did manage to function and last night was my first night of getting almost 8 hours of sleep undistrubed - only had to get up once to help one pup find his littermates, he keeps getting lost
I've attached a picture below taken just 12 hours after they were born.

Thank you everyone for the lovely compliments. Even though I did not plan on having a litter this close to Christmas, I must admit that they are a pretty cute bunch. I had 2 that I was a little worried about at first but they seem to be doing great so far. Their weights range from 5.2 oz to 8.8 oz when they were born, now they range from 6.2 oz to 11 oz. And everyone is pretty clear of any fluid in their lungs.
Now I only hope that the lawyer will straighten the parents of the deceased owner out so I can raise them without fear of being taken advantage of. Why can't some people just accept the truth at face value instead of insisting on making things difficult. Final wishes are just that final wishes!

It's a shame you have to get a lawyer involved just to take care of the late owner's pups as she wished! She obviously knew they would be better off with you Some people....Good luck with all of it!

Hey Cindy,
They are pure-bred shelties. And when my friend Debbie passed away suddenly at the first of this month, she left what they are calling a holographic will, addressed to my sister's best friend Ashlee and pretty much made her the excutor (sp??) of the estate. It stated exactly what she wanted done with the 6 dogs she was leaving behind - most of which were to be returned to the breeder or placed in new homes at the breeders request. Kelsea was very pregnant and therefore she told Ashlee to what she wanted with her, but to make sure they new pups had a loving home. It also went on to say that everything that was in the house that belonged to her (Debbie was renting from Ashlee) was to go to Ashlee as well as and she was sorry that it wasn't much.
Well Debbie's parents were refusing to acknowledge the letter/will existed and wanted all the dogs returned to them. But Kelsea and pups could remain with me, and when the were old enough to be placed in their new homes, they would come take them and Kelsea, but would pay me some money for my efforts. She never actually revealed the exact amount by I doubt it was much. They are only after the money that these pups and the adult dogs could potential give them. I know this because I actually asked why she would even want the pups considering she can't actually sell with any guarantee therefore they are not worth that much to them. They have no immediate concern or care for the dogs actually welfare just how much they could get for them. Heck, one of the dogs that was suppose to be returned to a breeder, they refuse to hand her over, but they "buy" her from them if she really wants her back, but they would need to discuss the amount first. Nice eh??
From my point of view Debbie's parents are not as strong animals lovers as their daughter was and if Debbie fore seen some reason to ensure her dogs were left to someone other than her parents, then they need to accept that and leave it be. But I was just informed this morning that I can continue raising the pups with no fear of having someone show up on my door step to take them away. The lawyer (who was representing Ashlee and the dogs) has very quickly shut them down, so now they should just go back to their corner in the Maritimes and leave everyone alone, and all the dogs are being placed according to Debbie's wishes. So I'm hoping they don't think they change my mind about the matter and just leave me alone.
Sound like fun eh? Talk about being respectable to someones final wishes.

Holy...I'm glad though that it "seems" to have worked out for now. Money makes people do crazy things!! You hear so many of these stories where a person dies and then all the family are fighting over material things...it's hard enough to lose one family member...now they may lose contact with others as well...Very sad!

I can only hope that they do leave everything well enough alone, but since their phone number was on my phone when I returned from picking my husband up from work, I can only imagine what they want now. But anyway I can post pics as they continue to grow up here, if you are all interested in seeing how a sheltie baby looks when they grow up. They are absolutely adorable, but then again I do breed and raise them, so my opinion might be a little one sided

Re: They Have Arrived ;)
These pups are all sold and are now living with their new families. If you are interested in obtaining a Sheltie puppy, I can recommend some breeders that may be of assistance.
