Dropping $500 on an 8 month who isn't even going to remember this holiday is fucking retarded.

I can appreciate being young, and having a child. My oldest was born when I was still in high school.

Take the $300 you have, spend $75 on toys for him, and drop the rest into feeding and clothing his little behind.
