Default Re: Buying OEM auto parts online better than locally

For those of you that have some car repairs which you cannot tackle yourselves I provided two of the most HONEST mechanics in Dartmouth/Halifax.

Laurie's Automotive on Wyse Rd is A VERY HONEST GARAGE TO TAKE YOUR CARS TO:

Laurie's Complete Automotive Service
219 Wyse Rd (near Symonds St & Elmwood Av,near the Scotia Tire)
Dartmouth
Ph: 466-1444

They sponsor the Trailer Park Boys so you often see them there.Another honest shop (in the Halifax side) is:

Hydrostone Auto Repair (New address)
5684 West Street at Agricola St (across from the Fire Station)
Halifax,NS B3K 1H7
Ph:454-9773

Wayne Rawding was voted best (most honest) mechanic by "The Coast" magazine year after year I believe from 2000 up to 2003:

I copied & pasted the reviews:

"Best mechanic

Wayne Rawding
Hydrostone Auto, 5516 Kaye, 454-9773

With 20 years experience under his tool belt, Wayne Rawding is your choice for who to take your car to when it's making those strange noises. Best of all, Rawding guarantees his work. He worked at the Shell Station on Young and the Gulf Station on Inglis before settling down at Hydrostone Auto. A good mechanic is hard to find, that's why Rawding's customers follow him wherever he goes and voted him best
car doctor in the HRM this year."

The proper way to find an HONEST mechanic, lawyer,TV repair tech, etc is by word of mouth from people like RC, other local discussion (classified sites, newsgroups),friends, relatives, neighbours and co-workers.

If the majority of people in the HRM speak highly for a person or shop then obviously they are HONEST but if one person comes along and says take your car to so and so I would be leary as sometimes people have a vested interest so they can get a free service at our expense. I lost a good friend because his crooked car mechanic ripped me off and he knew he was a crook.
