Default kudos to whoever can figure out this problem...

i'm running win xp with 2 gb ram, amd 4200 dual.

i've had this problem on previous windows installs and it's unpredictable.

I'm working away and all of a sudden a program will stall or there is a noticeable slowdown. I open task manager to see that the process "System" is taking 50% of my cpu. Under performance, I see that it has grabbed 100% of one core. http://picasaweb.google.com/scootr/Xp

I can usually exit out of a few programs, but eventually the screen freezes and I have to do a hard reboot. I've scanned my computer with about every freeware tool and i have realtime protection. (I never get alerts with this process chokes my system).

ps - "System" it can't be killed either

help!
mike
