CanadaWide Seaport beerfest - HFX - August 11th 07

Halifax Seaport Beerfest - Sat. August 11th 2007

Two sessions: 2-5pm and 7-10pm

First Annual Halifax Seaport Beerfest

Halifax, NS – We are pleased to announce the 1st annual Halifax Seaport Beerfest. This new, one-day, outdoor festival will take place on August 11, 2007 and will be a true celebration of all things brewed. The festival will draw upon the strong traditions established by beerfests in Toronto, Victoria and Montreal. Tickets go on sale Saturday June 9th at all Halifax and surrounding NSLC stores and are $30 plus HST. The event will host two sessions: 2-5pm and 7-10pm. The event is a co-production between Brian Titus (Garrison Brewing Co.) and Bruce Mansour (Make It Happen Inc.).
“Our goal is to create a world-class gathering of breweries each year in Halifax where people can sample, experience and learn about beer in an outdoor festival setting” said Brian Titus, Festival Co-Chair. The Seaport Beerfest will also be a major summer event for downtown Halifax attracting large numbers of tourists and locals alike. "The NSLC is pleased to be supporting this important new festival in Halifax," stated Rick Perkins, VP, Marketing, NSLC. "Our customers are increasingly looking to add premium and craft beer products to their purchases of beer in our stores. The additional opportunities for consumers to sample new products presented at the Seaport Beer Festival will enhance the beer knowledge of our customers. "

We are delighted to partner with the Port of Halifax, who are providing the venue to host this event, the Halifax Seaport. The Seaport is an exciting arts and cultural district along the Halifax waterfront close to the city’s legendary downtown nightlife. “We are pleased to have this event hosted at the Halifax Seaport. There is a lot happening down here for local residents and tourists to enjoy along the waterfront throughout the summer” said Paul MacIsaac, Senior Vice President, Halifax Port Authority. The event will take place directly behind Garrison Brewery (1149 Marginal Road). Sampling booths will be set-up outside where attendees can enjoy the spectacular outdoor setting and hot August sun while sampling over 100 different beers and ciders. Entertainment, food and local craft soda will also be featured at the event.

Beyond a great time, the Seaport Beerfest will be planned and run as an environmentally friendly, “Green Festival”. Event organizers are considering every aspect of the festival for ways to reduce its impact on the environment. Some ways the beerfest will reduce the amount of waste include: using re-usable souvenir sample cups, having beer in draught kegs, using returnable bottles, waste separation and mass transport. Solar power is also being planned to offset electrical requirements. With these small changes this event will have less impact on the environment.
